THE
Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam sentenced three
Indians and a Kenyan three years imprisonment or pay a fine of 2m/-. The
accused paid the fine and were set free.They
were Joseph Varghese Therattil (45), Head of Finance, Tina Bharat
Hemraj Shah (32), Accounts Assistant, Mohamed Yasir Shaikh (37),
Reprographic Expert and Ameet Rohit Gohel (31), a project manager.
Senior
Resident Magistrate, Huruma Shaidi, convicted the accused after
pleading guilty to charges which were read against them. “Because the
accused do not have past criminal record, therefore, each accused should
pay a fine of 500,000/- in case of default to go to jail for three
years,” ordered Magistrate Shaidi.
A
prosecutor with the Immigration Department, Method Kagoma, alleged that
on May 5, this year, at the Copy Cat Tanzania Limited, Ilala District,
Therattil and Shah, being citizens of India and Kenya were found working
as a head of finance and accounting assistant respectively, failing to
comply with conditions specified in their resident permit.
According
to Kagoma, Therattil’s working permit allowed him to work as a general
manager while Shah failed to comply with a resident permit no RPB045900
which permitted her to work as an international network specialist.
